The 2022 NYOA annual meeting was held on Sunday, November 13th. Below is a summary of that meeting.
Elections were held, the 2023 NYOA board is:
President, Chip Mann
VP Bikes, Greg Calkins
VP Quads,Mark Potter
Secretary, Cindy Davis
Treasurer, Billie Jo Carnes
Series Referee Jim Steiner
Promoter Reps, Chuck Reed and Shelby Brink
Rider Rep, Brett Ward (this board position is decided after the banquet, when the 2023 Rider reps are elected by the rider base)
Also elected was Brian Kinney as the Series Associate Referee
The competition committee looked at our rules, procedures, and classes. This is done at the end of every season. They presented recommendations at the meeting which were discussed and modified. There are changes LINE with NUMBER CHANGES in the Adult Bike classes, Adult Quad classes, and Pee Wee Quad Lines. We are working with scoring to allow rows that have changed to keep the last 2 digits of their current race number. (If you were in say row 9 as 912 and you are moved to row 11 you would be assigned 1112). Once 2023 registration opens if you wish to change your race number, our normal procedures will apply. There is also a change to the 400 Mini Quad line. Clarification for tie breakers and track etiquette has been added. Please see rules changes that are highlighted.
Race Format changes:
Please know this was its very own meeting for over 4 hours the week before the annual meeting. We also spent hours in the annual meeting on this. There is a huge amount of data that was looked at and considered. We do not take lightly the concerns brought to us especially about the Adult Bike race.
As we looked through the data what we found is that speed differential from front line racers to the back line doesn’t go away even when skill levels are split, and lappers are never going away. Also, across all events we do not feel we are doing all of the events as best as they can possibly be done. In order to improve there is a shared responsibility. The promoters and track building, as well our racers showing each other respect on the course, and with NYOA holding each group accountable. If you have further questions please contact your Bike Rider reps.
Summary of changes to Races:
-Lap time targets are 27-28 minutes
(Target time is based in the top 10 riders not just the leader)
-Slowing racers speeds down by way of track design
-Multiple lines to avoid bottlenecks
-Bike race will be suggested 4 laps maximum
-Quad race will be suggested 3 laps maximum
We had great participation in the 2022 season breaking records for racers at events! With the increase in numbers and costs we had less money at the end of the 2022 season than in 2021. Inflation has caused everything to cost more. The last time race fees were increased was 2014. For 2023 we are making a $5/$10 increase. We are increasing fees by $5 race entry (except AA up $10) $5 gate increase and $5 memberships fee increase.
2023 Pricing:
AA: $50
Adult Classes: $35
Mini Classes: $25
PeeWee Classes: $20
Gate fee for over 10 years: $20
Series Membership:
Will increase $5 per rider.
$25 From when registration opens until February 14th.
$35 February 14th to April 15th.
$45 at an event.
We are still working on finalizing our 2023 schedule. Once done, we will post it as soon as possible.
